A Chat With Breakout Country Artist Tyler Short on His New Single “This Is Me” & More

(Last Updated On: August 19, 2021)

Singer and songwriter Tyler Short is a new face to the music industry but his passion for music was birthed from early on. Tyler’s mission as a musical artist is to connect with his listeners on a deeper more spiritual and emotional level in the hopes that he can help them cope and deal with the unpredictability of life and the challenges it often presents. After hearing Tyler’s music the listener has one thought….more, please.

Hi Tyler! Thanks for the interview. We love learning how your mom encouraged you to sing at church when you were young. What were some of your favorite song(s) you liked to sing? Were you in the church choir?

“Deep and Wide” and “This Little Light of Mine” were the big ones for sure. The ones where I got to use my hands were the best kind. I cannot say I was ever in a church choir, though I’ve spent time in praise band/worship teams.

How does music make Tyler feel?

Joyful. It can also help me feel nothing at all. Music helps me escape and release things I wouldn’t normally talk about. In the long term, it allows me to feel good overall.

Let’s flip the script. When people hear you sing what do you want them to feel?

Whatever they need to feel. It could be something that helps them not feel alone or could just be background noise. Whatever my voice needs to be for them at that time is what I would want it to be.

Love that. You began songwriting at 19 years old. What were your thoughts when you began your writing journey?

I was definitely excited! The initial thoughts ranged from “I’m going to be a rockstar” to “why would anyone listen to this.” It was definitely a roller coaster of emotion.

Can totally relate. The beginning of anything is always challenging. Are you open to collaborating with other songwriters or artists in the future?

Most definitely. I look forward to co-writing in the future with other songwriters and artists. In general, working with others is something I enjoy. I am open to learning and so having the chance to learn more about writing from others is also a plus. I am still relatively new to the experience and have a long way to go so getting more experience of course is an additional benefit.

Your most recent song This is Me debuted on Apple Music “Best New Songs.”  That is awesome! Tell us more.

Thank you so much! Honestly “This Is Me” is just another song from a breakup. I was asked to dress in a manner I wouldn’t. She wanted me to dress silly, we fought, I said no, we broke up and I wrote a song. It really made me want to put my foot down on who I am. Now it’s out there.

Okay, let’s further explore “who you are” as an artist. “This Is Me” is described as a raw and rough-edged side of country music. Would you expound a little more on that and your musical sound overall?

The song is a personal experience in my life. And that’s about as raw as it gets I think. The sound just stems from my influence on what I’ve heard over the years. Brooks and Dunn definitely set a tone for me and have had a big impact. I’m hoping my sound grows as I do over the years.

We always love to learn who is a musician’s musician. What music has been playing in Tyler’s ears recently other than his own?

I’ve been spending a good bit of time listening to Josh Turner, Cody Johnson, Randy Rodgers, Josh Abbott, and George Strait (I mean that last one is kind of a given, when do you not listen to him.)

As you and your sound continue to grow, what’s next for you? What are your ideas for your next song(s)?

Well, I can’t really tell ya what’s next, that would ruin the surprise. I’ll give ya’ll a clue about the next release. The title of the next track is called “Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet.”

Ha! Well, we will just wait and “see”! Tyler thanks so much for the interview!
